Dog Swimming Gear: Life Jackets, Life Vests and Pools

Dog swimming gear covers two groups of products: wearable flotation for dogs that spend time in or near water, and pools that give dogs a place to splash at home. This collection includes the SwimShield dog life jacket, the AquaPaw Guard and TideHound dog life vests, the SplashMutt dog swimming pool and the SplashCove portable dog pool.

Life jackets and life vests

A dog life jacket or life vest is worn on the body and is used during swimming, boating, paddling and beach or lake outings. When comparing options, the main points are sizing against the dog's chest and neck measurements, how the straps and buckles adjust, and whether the style suits the dog's build and coat. A fitting check before each outing helps confirm the vest sits comfortably.

Dog pools

A dog swimming pool or portable dog pool is used in a yard, patio or other open space. Useful points to compare include diameter and depth, how the pool is set up and stored, the material it is made from, and how it is drained and cleaned. Portable designs suit households that want to pack the pool away between uses, while a larger pool suits bigger dogs or several dogs at once.

Choosing between the two

• Dogs near open water, boats or docks are usually fitted with a life jacket or life vest.
• Dogs that cool off or play in a yard are commonly given a pool.
• Many households use both, depending on the season and location.

Dog size, coat length and comfort in water are worth checking against each product's listed dimensions before ordering.
